My Current Skincare Routine

While I've always loved make-up, skincare isn't something I ever took seriously until recently. My routine once consisted of a quick once over with make-up wipes/micellar water, followed by a slathering of whatever cream I had at hand. However, in recent years I've come to realise that good quality skincare is the foundation of a flawless complexion (along with water... lots of water!) and ever since I started investing in my routine, my make-up has sat better and lasted so much longer. While I can still be a little lax at times, I've finally found a series of products that work really well for me. Here's what I use:

Disclaimer: My skin is normal to dry and prone to hormonal acne.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. Charlotte's Magic Cream has become quite the cult beauty product and it's not difficult to see why. A gorgeous concoction of Vitamin E, rose hip oil, wild pansy extracts and anti-aging BioNymph Peptide Complex, it claims to seal in moisture, re-plump the complexion and energize skin cells. Charlotte states this is suitable for all skin types, but I find it especially refreshing on my dry complexion as it's so rich and creamy. I've been using this every morning for the past few months and it's done wonders for my skin, not to mention it sits beautifully underneath make-up.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Cream. I didn't like this at all when I first tried it - the consistency is thick and sticky (very similar to Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Cream) therefore it was unbearable to sleep in. I soon learnt that a little goes a long way and after reducing how much I applied, I found it much more comfortable to wear. I'm so glad I gave it another chance as I'm obsessed with the way it makes my skin look - when I wake up my complexion appears radiant and healthy, my acne scars are much less prominent and my face feels so smooth to touch. It's 8 hours sleep in a jar!

Alpha H Liquid Gold. I decided to pick this up recently after reading dozens of glowing reviews. If you haven't ever heard of the wonder that is Liquid Gold, it's essentially a glycolic acid peel that removes dead skin cells and leaves your complexion feeling soft and revived. I apply this 2-3 times a week in place of my usual night cream. The results are amazing, although I have to say it's not for the faint-hearted - it stings a lot!

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Eye Rescue. Now I'm on the wrong side of 25 (joy!) I thought it was about time I invested in a decent eye cream. This a bit too rich for the day so I like to apply it before I go to bed - I pop it over my lid, under my eyes and down onto my cheekbones to keep dryness at bay.

Lush Ultrabland Facial Cleanser. I love trying new cleansers, so this is one aspect of my routine that I constantly switch up. I've been using Lush's Ultrabland on and off for years and I adore it. The texture is a little greasy but it does an amazing job of removing my make-up and always leaves my skin feeling clean and soft.

Other cleansers I love include Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish, Superdrug's Hot Cloth Cleanser and Soap and Glory's Peaches and Cream.

Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask. Clay masks have always been a no no for me as they usually make my face feel tight and dry. However, Charlotte's offering has recently become a staple in my routine - it contains sweet almond and rosehip oils which leave my skin feeling beautifully nourished. I apply a thin layer 2-3 times a week, relax for half an hour and let the mask work its magic.

What are some of your favourite skincare products? x

  1. Ahh I've been meaning to find good facial cleansers and Lush has a pretty good rep, so I'm eager to try the one you mentioned. (The slightly greasy texture might just be good for my ultra-dry skin hahaha) Thanks for sharing x
