My Favourite Shows to Binge Watch

There's nothing quite like getting your teeth into a decent TV show, especially this time of year. One of my favourite things to do when the weather's cold is make myself a huge mug of tea, snuggle down with my hot water bottle and sit and watch back to back episodes of my favourite programmes. Here are a few I just love to binge on:

Father Ted. I sometimes feel like this show was written for me - I only have to hear one quote and I'm in stitches. It centres round three priests who live together on an island and all the ridiculous situations they get themselves into. It's slightly dated now as the first episode aired during the mid 90's but it's still brilliant.

The IT Crowd. This is like a more modern version of Father Ted - it was written by Graham Linehan so the humour is very similar. When I first discovered it I watched the entire show in about a week. The episode where they play Street Countdown always has me crying with laughter. Anybody else have a slight crush on Richard Ayoade?

Breaking Bad. I'm not sure why I put off Breaking Bad for so long - I think it may have been because it was so hyped up and I was worried it wouldn't live up to my expectations. I finally caved and made the mistake of watching the first episode a month before all my uni work was due.

I won't go into too much detail about the plot as I'm sure everyone and their dog has watched this by now, but it's about a dying chemist and a young drug dealer who team up to cook meth. I was addicted to this despite the fact the story line wouldn't usually be my cup of tea. The writing is so clever and the acting is amazing. It's a little slow in places but for the most part it's a show you can't help but become obsessed with.

Desperate Housewives. This NEVER gets old! I must have watched every series at least at dozen times, but whenever I catch an episode I'm hooked all over again. It's a little cheesy and gets very silly towards the end but the first few seasons are absolutely golden.

The US Office. This is definitely a show to watch if you're a fan of sarcasm or dry humour. The Office is a mockumentary centering around the everyday lives of those who work for paper company Dunder Mifflin. Dwight and Michael are my favourite characters although I'm completely in love with Jim, too.

The Vicar of Dibley. The Vicar of Dibley has been one of my favourite shows since before I can remember - it instantly makes me feel cosy, especially at Christmas. The show centres around Geraldine Granger (Dawn French), who arrives in Dibley as the village's new vicar. In the beginning her parishioners are very much against a woman being head of the church but they soon grow to adore her. The relationships portrayed in this show are what make it so special and I love each and every character equally.

FRIENDS. I've seen every episode of FRIENDS a million times yet I never grow tired of it. I remember watching it on repeat when I was 11/12  and falling in love with the characters, especially Chandler. I prefer the earlier seasons but the show as a whole will always be one of my firm favourites.

  2. I'd forgotten about the Vicar of Dibley! It's hilarious, and sort of comforting to watch.
