Ballet

Like the majority of the female population, I took dance lessons as a child. I carried on doing ballet during my late teens but eventually had to stop due to University commitments. Although I've never had the grace or drive to dance professionally, I still love anything related to ballet - I even have a board on Pinterest dedicated to it! It's amazing how something that takes many years of grueling work and motivation can look so fluent and effortless. I'm sure anyone who has danced - or watched Black Swan - will know what I'm talking about!

I'm hoping to take up ballet again sometime in the near future. Not only is it enjoyable, it's great exercise and fab for your overall flexibility and strength. Even gentle movement at the barre is perfect for toning your body, especially your legs and bum! Many people believe that you have to be very young to start ballet, and while it's true that you should ideally begin classes as a child if you want to dance professionally, there's no rules against perusing it for fun and fitness at any age. It really is a beautiful art and always generates lots of interest!

  3. I love looking at ballet photos and watching it :) so beautiful! I did it for a term when I was 3 but even when I was that young I knew I wasn't into something as disciplined as ballet :P instead when I grew up I did belly dance for a few years! Something equally beautiful, but totally different! And just as good for you! It was probably better for me too 'cos I trained in singing and a ballerina's posture is too uptight to sing as naturally and easily as usual :) dance is such a wonderful art form! x

  4. I so regret quitting my ballet class, but i didn't have the time anymore. And at one point you have to choose what you want in live. I absolutely loved it as a child to dress up in beautiful tutus & wear make-up & doing all grown up stuff. I thinks it lears you a certain style & grace.

  5. Wow, those shoes look like they've aged gracefully. I used to take ballet when I was younger and I really enjoyed it, until my passion for music took over and I decided to pursue that instead.

  8. Beautiful photos. I took ballet all through school and the smell of ballet shoes always takes me back. Funny how little things like that take you back to your childhood.

  12. I love ballet as well! I used to dance too and I would love to start up again. You should check out the show dance academy. Plus there is a dance show on Teen Vogue's YouTube channel that's called strictly ballet. Haha sorry for all the info.
Check out my blog and maybe we can follow each other? Hope to hear from you!

  13. Beautiful photographs. I love your blog design.
I've just started an adult beginners ballet class in Glasgow, actually. In the middle of doing a PhD at the moment, and it can get a bit depressing sitting by yourself staring at the same computer day in day out... so had a think recently about 'what makes me happy' and realised that ballet (watching it) has always make me happy. So why not try and dance it too? Such a lovely way to spend an evening (although so much harder than it looks!)

Looking forward to sending your postcard.

  14. Ballet has always interested me but in early childhood my mum took me to contemporary dance lessons and I danced for 6 years. I've always considered trying out ballet, but for some reason never get the chance to! Love the pictures btw!
